Growing Digital Library of the City of Murcia (12/05/2010)

The Digital Library of the City of Murcia will raise funds through a new agreement of the Ministry of Culture that will digitize about 280 books of the eighteenth century.

Most of these documents are printed works in Murcia and among them include books written by Cardinal Belluga.

Thus, we continue the task of scanning that started in 2002 and held the agreement signed in 2007 between the Council and the Ministry of Culture to increase annually digitized.

This digital library is available at http://www.murcia.es/bibliotecadigitaldemurcia/.

The Digital Library of the City of Murcia is created to conserve and preserve digitally, and likewise to spread through the network, the valuable bibliographical preserved in the Municipal Archives of Murcia.

The bibliographic Municipal Archive, collected mostly in the Union Catalogue of Bibliographical Heritage since 1989, houses works from the early years of printing, with the largest share belongs to the eighteenth century.

In the year 2008 starts the digitization of older print Muncipal File under an agreement signed with the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate General for Books, Archives and Libraries.

In that year the funds were digitized from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth century part, which represented a total of 225 books and 50,306 images, which became part of the Virtual Heritage Library Journal and subsequently to the European Digital Library ( Europeana).
