A study shows that heart rate influences the stress of non-university teachers (10/05/2010)

A study published in the journal Annals of Psychology, which is based on a questionnaire from 200 non-university teachers of the city of Murcia, has found that the type of school influences the stress level of their teachers.

The authors, Isabel Latorre and professor of the Faculty of Education at the University of Murcia Juan Sáez, have studied the phenomenon of burnout (syndrome of "burning") and concluded that subsidized schools produce more stress than public.

However, teachers in aided schools feel more supported and valued, which could be due, say the authors, the more familiar and relaxed atmosphere that is generated in these centers.

By contrast, in public, despite its less stress, teachers show emotions of a negative nature, as rage or anger, and feel less supported at all levels.

Despite these results, the authors found no significant differences in the current Spanish society between the public and private schools, which causes the level of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment from their teachers is similar.

As a result, they say, are the factors related to the personality of teachers as professionals determine what is going to manifest the disease from burning and what not.

Journal of Psychology is published by the editor of the University of Murcia (EDITUM) and the Association of Psychologists in the Region.
