House celebrates the "birthday" of the market in fruit and vegetable wholesalers Mercamurcia with the auction (07/05/2010)

The Mayor delivered awards to settlers who have been accredited modules and auctions Mercamurcia previous

Two hundred jobs and a turnover of 15 million euros and marketing in excess of 80,000 tonnes are two parameters which guarantee the excellent performance recorded by the Fruit and Vegetable Market in Mercamurcia in its 30 year existence.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, held a meeting with wholesalers in the market to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the market, a move that has also had the assistance of Martin Peña, managing director of Mercamurcia, and Carlos Romero, President Manufacturers Association of Fruit and Vegetable Market.

The auction was launched in Mercamurcia in January 1980.

Until then, and since 1954, had served in San Basilio.

In the last 30 years, trading volume has grown by 38%, from the initial 58,000 tons to 80,000 today.

Growth has been such that the facilities currently spread over two buildings totaling 85 modules wholesalers, nearly 8,600 square meters in area, over 2,600 square feet and 7,000 parking docks.

Mercamurcia depart daily from products that have been grown in Murcia, Almería or any other part of Spain or even abroad, but with the common denominator to ensure the best value for money.

Likewise, buyers come to market throughout the region and nearby provinces, especially from Granada, Almeria, Alicante, Albacete and Ciudad Real.

In the ceremony held this evening, the Mayor has given awards to various people who have earned this recognition in recent years.

Thus, they received a commemorative figures:

Fulgencio Carrilero, who has had a Mercamurcia module and the two auctions that preceded it in St. Basil and St. Augustine.

Francisco Pardo, only president of the association alive.

The settlers retired Andres Jara and José Martínez have also received from the Mayor a commemorative diploma.

The event ended with the delivery of commemorative figures settlements which are still active and have been and are still holding a module, first in the old market of San Basilio and then Mercamurcia.
