An auxiliary aid for women and children recover from the effects of violence (05/05/2010)

In addition to actions undertaken by the Municipality of Murcia, with the multidisciplinary team which is counted in the Department of Social Welfare and Equal Opportunities Policy, which directs Maria del Carmen Pelegrin, the shelters of municipal ownership (currently two) have a group of aides who work daily with women and children welcome.

The Governing Board of the City of Murcia has won this morning the service of domestic organization and development of accompanying activities, leisure and free time for the use of shelters.

The purpose of this service, which is carried out by assistants who are in shelters, is the retrieval of women and children from the effects of violence.

Therefore, the team works in two main actions: first, household organization, cleaning, shopping, home organization, etc .- and on the other hand, the social support of those admitted and their children.

Since many of the women who take come from other provinces, the support is to perform administrative tasks, provide guidance in the new place, psychological support, etc.

Respect to children, support focuses on the collection of school, development of recreational and leisure activities, etc.

Municipal Team for the Care of Gender Violence, in 2009 has served 356 women, of whom 65% are Spanish, have an average age of 37 years and 2 children.

Host-family stayed 8 women and 14 minors.

So far in 2010 have been treated 91 women, with 2 the shelter housed with 6 children ranging from 16 years 8 months old.

This program has been developing for more than eight years and is renewed annually.
