Gardens and Orchards: Corners of Biodiversity in Murcia (08/03/2010)

The Department of Environment and Urban Quality joins the International Year of Biodiversity.

Therefore, it has published a brochure that includes a few tips that will allow Murcia contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the municipality by small actions in their gardens or orchards.

The objective of this initiative is to increase the diversity and abundance of wild species in the urban environment, encouraging owners of orchards and gardens to make management based on environmental criteria.

Thus, the council has published a total of 5,000 leaflets to involve Murcia in the conservation of biodiversity in the municipality, with a few tips to make nature into the garden or garden.

This brochure will be distributed in neighborhood councils, mayors of districts, community centers and associations related to the subject.

A total of fifteen include simple actions that benefit biodiversity:

1.

Select native plants to encourage the wildlife, in addition to saving water and maintenance.

Keep the litter and dead wood as it serves as fertilizer and promotes the development of natural processes.

Place feeders in winter when food is scarce.

10.

Installing nest boxes in the garden or orchard.

Limiting pavement surfaces since the surfaces of land allow the settlement of vegetation and diverse wildlife.

In the garden of Murcia is only allowed to pave a maximum of between 10 and 20 percent, depending on the area of the farm area.
