Leading experts analyze the Islamic ceramics of the region in a seminar (04/11/2008)

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has organized the seminar "Islamic Pottery in the Region of Murcia" in which experts discussed for two days, deepen and discuss about this art at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia.

The meeting is part of the activities of the Center for Medieval and Islamic Archaeology, which was held at the Museum of Santa Clara.

Furthermore, in parallel with the conference, will open the exhibition 'The Islamic ceramics in Murcia: Lorca materials', an exhibition that opened last year in the Archaeological Museum of Lorca and runs several museums in the region.

The Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón, said that "this activity, linked to the Centre for the Study of Islamic Archaeology, is an example of interest in research of the Ministry in providing science-based regional heritage.

In addition, papers and studies that are exposed at this meeting will be collected in one volume. "

This book joins the first issue of the journal Tudmir 'specific publication of the Centre which includes the latest research and studies on medieval archeology.

The round table "Islamic Pottery in the Region of Murcia 'meet on 7 and 8 November at regional and international experts in this field.

Thus, analyzing the different types of pottery and rope techniques such as dry, golden and ceramic tile graffito, among others.

Presentations will be made by Claire Delery, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, Susana Gomez, head of the archaeological field Mértola in Portugal, Jose Manuel Hita and Fernando Villada Cieza Archaeological Museum and the archaeological museum directors Alicante , Cartagena, Lorca.

In addition, visit the Museum and the Museum Siyasa Santa Clara to complete, with exposure, in situ knowledge of the most prominent Islamic ceramics in the region.

"If research is coupled to practical knowledge, is hosting the exhibition 'The Islamic Ceramics in Murcia: Lorca materials,'" said the CEO.

The exhibition brings together the various decorative techniques employed through 50 pieces from the exhibit, offering visitors a survey of Islamic productions IX to XIII centuries collected during 20 years of excavations.

The exhibition, prepared by the Archaeological Museum of Lorca in November 2007, has toured the archaeological museums of Jumilla, Cartagena, Bullas, Cehegín Alhama de Murcia and then conclude in Mula.

The exhibition will be in the Archaeological until 30 November.
