10,000 school children learn road safety before they get behind the wheel age (26/11/2015)

Primary and secondary school students involved in these activities, which are part of the program "The city also teaches".

The Mayor has visited this morning the Children's Traffic Park, where 28 students of the school Santa Rosa de Lima El Palmar have today made the bike and go-kart circuit.

Nearly 10,000 schoolchildren in the municipality this course will learn the signs, acquire notions of prevention of road accidents and develop sense before even old enough to get behind the wheel.

They will do so because it is expected to participate in the various activities of road education that form part of the "The city also teaches", which provides the city of Murcia through the Department of Education.

It is training them for good drivers in the future, respectful of the rules of road safety.

To do this, they participate in the competition for traffic education and accident prevention, leisure programs outside school hours and traffic playground.

The latter is one of the most popular activities.

Directed to students from 5th grade, is conducted with the cooperation of the leaders of Children's Traffic Park, the Local Police and the Department of Education.

Last year 3,100 students from 81 participating schools, and this year 3,723 are expected to attend 91 schools.

The Mayor, José Ballesta, accompanied by Council Lola Sanchez and Rafael Gomez, visited this morning the facilities, coinciding with the visit of 28 students of the CEIP Santa Rosa de Lima, El Palmar.

After the talks were in their classes, taught by local police officers assigned to the program, children have spoken today in the practical phase, namely the realization of interactive games and a bike and kart circuit in which simulate real traffic conditions allowing them to experience in practice the contents acquired through lectures and acquire better knowledge and they can use as adults and become drivers.

In addition to the children's traffic park, other activities in high demand by schools is the contest driver education and accident prevention, in this case, is for students from 3rd ESO.

This course will include the participation of 4,509 young people from 55 centers.

The driver education program of the City, which is taught from 1985, complete with the acts of the Mobility Week, with 90 escolares-, Leisure Christmas -352-, -933- Leisure school hours and Day Police students- -238.

What the city shows

The program "The city also teaches" gives the opportunity to attend school classes complementary activities in schools, using the city as useful and appropriate remedy.

In this way, the school is about to reality and allows children to know their environment and natural heritage that the city offers.

To do this, the City makes available to citizens its extensive network of facilities, which include, in addition to schools, sports halls, cultural centers, community centers or libraries, among other infrastructure.

This course will develop activities for 2,052 schoolchildren in 158 nursery and primary schools in kindergarten and primary students and 713 for high school students in 64 schools.

In total, it is estimated that 66 786 46 727 school students from the municipality and 20,059 young people will attend the activities organized by "The city also teaches" this course, distributed in the areas of auditoriums and cultural centers, libraries, social welfare, cooperation development, culture, sports, education, employment, kindergartens, innovation and information society, youth, street cleaning and waste management, environment, health, social services and tourism.
