"The difference between good and excellent athlete is the mental factor" (21/04/2015)

The role of the psychologist in sport, the work done and some of the challenges for the future are some of the main issues being addressed in the V Congress of Psychology UCAM held until Thursday at the Catholic University San Antonio.

Estrella Nunez, Vice President for Research UCAM;

José María Catalán, dean of the College of Psychologists of the Region of Murcia;

and Francisco Moya, Vice Dean of the Degree in Psychology UCAM, inaugurated a conference that focuses this year on sports psychology, as one of the most promising aspects for psychologists.

Joaquín Díaz, a psychologist at the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation and Professor of Psychology at the National Coaching School, gave the inaugural lecture 'Psychological training of specialists in team sports.

Before his speech, he said that "sport psychology is making headway. Increasingly, sports psychologists are working with athletes and senior teams. This discipline has a bright future. Keep in mind that the difference between a good athlete and a great athlete is in the mental factor. "

Therefore, Diaz is convinced that the sports psychologist is key because "it is the coach of mind. What we do is train the mind of athletes to surrender and to humanely when not achieve their goals."

Before the opening of the congress, José María Catalán discussed the importance of further opening the way for psychologists to enter the field of sport but also focused on physical exercise and training: "Psychology can bring a different perspective to the sports field . We must assess not only talk about high-level sport. We must also focus on everything that relates to physical exercise. We must motivate kids from entering the school to play sports and be an activity they accompany you throughout your life. We know that exercise is positive emotional balance of the person. "

Francisco Moya highlighted one of the key points to be discussed at this conference: "The psychologist is the best person to manage emotions and motivation that are definitive for achieving the goals in the sport."
