Murcia has been awarded the second place prize for the European Mobility Week 2014, which has won the Swedish city of Östersund.
Councilman Traffic and Transport, Javier Iniesta, accepted the award at a gala held at the Vaudeville Theatre in Brussels.
The town was a finalist along with Östersund (Sweden) and Vienna (Austria), chosen from more than 2,000 European cities that had been presented to this edition.
Thus, European Commissioners for Environment and Transport have valued the creativity of European Mobility Week, public awareness of sustainable mobility issues and implementing measures to achieve a shift towards sustainable urban transport initiated by the City .
Murcia and was a finalist in the awards for European Mobility Week 2010 edition in which he won the Portuguese city of Almada.
With this award, the European Union wants to reward the activities of local authorities within the framework of the European Mobility Week and promote the exchange of experience and success in your organization.
The winners are chosen by a panel of independent experts on urban mobility.
Murcia held the European Mobility Week 2014, with more than twenty activities under the banner with the slogan 'Our streets, Our Choice', held from 16 to 22 September.
