The rector José Orihuela opens Room Breeding Aquarium of the University of Murcia (22/01/2015)

José Orihuela, rector of the University of Murcia, described the Board Breeding Aquarium's educational institution, which opened today, as a "fascinating combination of research, culture and transfer".

During the tour of the facility, located in the Old Artillery Barracks Murcia, director of Aquarius, Professor Ezequiel Martinez and Emilio Cortés taught technical work that develops in the room, including playing different or coral species known as the Clownfish.

The Board has three independent systems that come from ancient Laboratory Aquariology, two of them for breeding of fish and crustaceans and, one, that of corals.

Systems 34 are constituted by tanks containing 16,000 liters of water, subjected to filtration systems specifically designed for the purpose of breeding is intended.

Currently in this aquarium, the only one of Spain belonging to a university, are playing 12 fish species, among which are clownfish, seahorses, pipefish and sharks.

Three species of crustaceans and more than 30 species of coral also reproduced.

Among the authorities present at the inauguration were, among others, the CEOs of Research and Innovation and Universities, Celia Martinez and Luis Javier Lozano, respectively;

and, by the University of Murcia, in addition to the rector, the Vice Chancellor for Research, Juan Antonio García, accompanied by their coordinators Emma Martinez and Rosa María Ros.
