The entrepreneurial rate in the Region of Murcia rose above the Spanish average (17/12/2014)

The percentage of consolidated entrepreneurial activities (over 42 months) in the Region of Murcia is 10.5%, which is 18% higher than the Spanish average, according to figures from GEM 2013 report, the International Observatory with annually examines the entrepreneurial phenomenon.

This figure, which implies that the difficulties in consolidating entrepreneurial initiatives in the region are lower than in the rest of the country is the best since in 2006 began to be made to the report, which was presented today at the home of the Rector of the University of Murcia by their directors, teachers Antonio Aragon and Alicia Rubio.

The study population Murcia has a rate of entrepreneurial activity (TEA business or business activity not exceeding 42 months) of 5.30% (an increase of 1.4 points compared to 2012), slightly above average Spanish, which was 5.21%.

With regard to the reasons for starting a business, dominated by companies created to exploit opportunities (52.9%), but the proportion of companies arising from necessity is increased by more than 15 points compared to 2012, reflecting of the economic crisis.

The report also refers to the entrepreneurial perceptions, whereas 15.2% of respondents that there are good business opportunities to undertake in the region, confirming the slight increase observed in this section since 2011, but also taking a drop in the number of people who think that entrepreneurship is a good career option in the Region of Murcia (53.6% in 2013, from 63.2% in 2012).

In this connection, the survey shows that in Murcia and in the rest of Spain perceived opportunities to undertake is below what happens in other countries of the European Union.

The GEM study also notes in its conclusions that the increase in TEA in the region has not been accompanied by an improvement in funding for these initiatives and that most of them are located in the consumer-oriented, especially industry, and the service.

The report in the Region of Murcia has been prepared by the Chair of Entrepreneurs of the educational institution under the Vice President Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, led by Professor Frances Thomas, who emphasized during the presentation the importance of data for studies of employability and job placement conducted by the University of Murcia.

The presentation will also involved the territorial director Lift the BMN, Juan Antonio Campillo, and the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Employment and Innovation, Juan Carlos Ruiz, who noted that the study's findings are useful for Administration, in that they serve to improve and make available to the new entrepreneurs tools to facilitate their activity.

Also, the Minister stressed that the Region of Murcia is more entrepreneurial than the Spanish average and the percentage of entrepreneurship and new autonomous are also superior to the rest of the country.

Finally, the rector, José Orihuela, who thanked the research team's work and counseling and support BMN, said that the University will insist on promoting training and entrepreneurial culture among students.
