The exurb Association presents the book "Life Stories" on collectives in situations of social exclusion (05/02/2014)

The Councillor for Social Welfare, Maruja Pelegrin, attended the presentation of the book "Life Stories."

The exurb Association (Collective for action and research on urban social exclusion), has conducted an investigation during the period from 2011 to 2013, about the life experiences of the neighbors Espinardo in order to help them better understand and its characteristics and peculiarities.

The project, called "Life Stories" is a collection of 35 respondents report participating and collaborating with his testimony.

An object that is part of the Holy Spirit Project Area Espinardo, in collaboration with the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Murcia.

The methodology used was to examine the life experiences of the neighbors, that is, how they live, how they lived, if they have suffered situations of vulnerability or social exclusion, what memories have on the neighborhood, ...

to provide a tool for valid information about their lives and, at the same time inviting them to begin a process of collective reflection to finding the identity of the neighborhood.

The result has been achieved thanks to the commitment and participation of the 35 people interviewed who have served as the basis for interpreting the keys of a particular social phenomenon.

The project was implemented in several phases:

Phase 1 focused on the approach to the realities of daily and neighborhood residents, creating a climate of trust with them to meet their everyday life situations and understand the diversity of its life forms.

For this, a previous survey that allowed us to detect and analyze potential participants in the project to which they were subsequently conducted the interviews took place.

Phase 2, analysis of the information collected, providing an understanding the social dynamics of the neighborhood, as well as profiles of their neighbors and walking paths.

Phase 3, recovery of the neighborhood's history through the collective memory of its neighbors, capturing the memories and experiences that link them to the neighborhood and reconstructing their history through their stories.

The project team was made up of people from different agencies of the association.

As a local resident, Ruth Contreras, who has worked in the field of research and has facilitated the involvement and collaboration of respondents when providing testimony.

Also part of the project volunteers exurb Association: Maria Aliaga and M ª Dolores Saravia Mayka Green.

By the University of Murcia, Prudencio Riquelme has led the project and Catherine Nicholas has collaborated in the writing of technical assistance and research.

Also worth mentioning, the collaboration of Antonio Hidalgo La Casica Association in the development of the project.
