Approved Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan that promotes a healthier design mobility and respectful with the environment (19/12/2013)

The full council has approved with votes in favor of the Municipal People and votes against the Municipal Socialist Group and IU-Greens and UPyD abstaining, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) which aims to improve quality of life of Murcia promoting more sustainable forms of transport.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, explained that "it is essential to ensure accessibility and mobility throughout the area of ​​the municipality instrument. It is based on a technical study on the reality of the modes of transport in Murcia and, after a period public exhibition, most contributions from groups, associations and professional organizations have been taken into account when incorporating them within this document. "

Councilman Traffic and Transportation, Javier Iniesta, wanted to thank your feedback to all who have offered suggestions and allegations made by his interest in making this PMUS more in line with the reality of the municipality.

The Plan has been approved today has been modified, improved and updated in accordance with current projects and programs.

The objectives of this PMUS can be set from three different aspects:

- From the social point of view: The pedestrian and quality of life are the main focus of the plan which seeks to provide appropriate conditions of accessibility of citizens to the point of work and residence.

- From the economic point of view: Meeting the general mobility needs of people and economic activities, promoting the development and competitiveness

- From the environmental point of view: to protect the environment and reduce air and noise pollution, prioritizing sustainable modes of transport.

In PMUS various strategic axes are established.

In the public transport warning of the need to create a Local Plan Coordination of public transport in the system involving the City Council, the Community and the three concessionaires transport municipality.

It was also committed to a mode of transport as beneficial to the environment as possible and tram interchange points between different modes of transport are proposed.

The strategic focus of the pedestrian, the implementation of various initiatives such as the implementation of the Walk 10,000 steps throughout the municipality is included, the School Safe Passage to further improve road safety in 162 pedestrian routes in the municipality.
