The University of Murcia takes the science of their labs to the streets in The Night of the researchers (25/09/2013)

The University of Murcia adds this Friday for the sixth consecutive time Researchers' Night, an initiative of the European Commission to show the closest face of science that takes place simultaneously in nearly 350 European cities.

On the afternoon of Friday, September 27, the Old Barracks Artillery Murcia city will host a series of activities, especially for children, in which scientists from the University, in simple language and entertaining, and through experiments, games and workshops, teach the research done in laboratories.

The Vice Chancellor for Research, Gaspar Ros, and the coordinator of the Scientific Culture and Promotion of Research, Antonio Guirao, have noted during the presentation to the media event held in convalescence, it is the issue with as many scheduled activities, about forty of different subject areas such as psychology, medicine, computer science, engineering, biology, archeology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, criminology and art.

The Researchers' Night, attendees will be chemical for a day, see how the machine really know how science works in solving crimes, the relationship between nutrition and health, control objects with his mind and become a basic study of cardiovascular risk, among many other options.

There will also be an explanatory, as brought by students of Fine Arts, which explain how to research for new materials, or to show the Veterinary Anatomical Museum, with more than twenty pieces of plastinated animals to teach animal anatomy to the public.

Furthermore, children can make their own mini piece of art and writing scientific reports and participate in a drawing competition on the vision they have of researchers.

The program also includes a performance of folk and rock concert, making graffiti and guided tours of the Museum and the Aquarium of the University.

Both the CEO of Universities, Luis Javier Lozano, as the Director of Research and Innovation, Eduardo Osuna, have agreed on the importance of placing value closer to science and society.

For its part, the rector, José Antonio Cobacho, highlighted the consolidation of an event in which the University of Murcia was a national pioneer in joining.

The Researchers' Night is organized in Murcia Unit Scientific Culture and Promotion of Research at the University, with funding from the European Commission and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
