Journalists increasingly willing to respond to their followers (25/09/2013)

The research has analyzed over a thousand tweets Trecet prestigious professionals like Ramon, Pedro J.

Ramirez, Melchor Miralles or Almudena Ariza

A study by Professor and Director, Department of Communication Sciences of the Catholic University San Antonio of Murcia (UCAM), José Manuel Noguera, reveals that media professionals seem increasingly willing to use Twitter as a platform for the dissemination of information.

The research analyzed more than twenty-five thousand tweets prominent journalists.

The strong growth that has taken in recent years and the massive use millions of people around the world take to Twitter has led journalists to set their sights on this microblogging network to receive news, event contact witnesses or, as relates to the study, together with their followers (followers) to develop more precise.

In this sense, the research of Professor Noguera said that the phenomenon of journalism end-user (user-centered), in which professionals acquire no more participation and greater ability to select journalists and decision making, is increasingly present in this network.

However, only 5% of the tweets were analyzed explicit requests for information from journalists, while in contrast 27% were direct answers to user questions.

On the other hand, 32% of the messages containing a link to share certain contents.

In this sense, the study says that journalists are open to share links that lead to other web pages different from their media and post tweets unrelated to your work.

Among the journalists analyzed include Peter J.

Ramirez, Vicente Vallés, Alfredo Relaño, Melchor Miralles, Javier Ares, Almudena Ariza, Ignacio Escolar, Ramon Lobo, Felipe del Campo, Rosa Jimenez or Silvia Cobo, among others.

The study, entitled "How open are journalists on Twitter? Trends towards the end-user journalism", was made during a research visit of Professor José Manuel Noguera in Canada under the tutelage of Professor Alfred Hermida (University of British Columbia, Vancouver) .
