Murcia bet for a happy heart (20/09/2013)

On the occasion of the commemoration of World Heart Day, under the slogan "For a Happy Heart", will be carried out different activities and workshops in order to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

This initiative is organized by the Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC) with Murcia Society of Cardiology and the city of Murcia, with the support of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the collaboration of Murcia Health Service and the association ' All Heart of Murcia.

The Department of Health has identified obesity as the first public health problem in the municipality, as it reaches to 32% of children between 6 and 14 years and 50% of those over 50 years.

Under the slogan "For a Happy Heart" will be carried out different activities and workshops in order to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as it has been shown that 80% of premature deaths are be prevented if these guidelines are met.

Starting Monday all Murcia who wish may attend free various activities such as fitness classes, heart-healthy cooking workshops and conferences on cardiovascular diseases, all with the aim to raise awareness and encourage people to achieve and maintain habits healthy life.

In addition, Liberty Avenue will host on Wednesday and Thursday an area that will be tested cardiovascular risk measurement free (tension control, measuring body mass index, etc..).

Healthy Lives

Cardiovascular disease in Spain and Murcia

Currently, over 30% of deaths in Spain are due to cardiovascular diseases.

This is shown by the latest data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), in February 2013, which show that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death.

Specifically, in the region of Murcia, three out of ten deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease, resulting in 31.56% of all deaths, a figure above the Spanish average.

Among cardiovascular diseases, the most prevalent in Spain are ischemic heart disease (leading cause of death in men) and cerebrovascular disease (in women).

This activity has the support of the strategic partners of the FEC, Coca-Cola Spain, Danone and Campofrío, entities that share its concern for cardiovascular health and promoting healthy lifestyle patterns.

Previously, during Heart Week, is conducting a solidarity movement consisting in small gestures to form a truly healthy chain of favors to people who matter most, in support of cardiovascular health.

With the "Pay It Forward, please make your heart" (www.cadenadecorazones.es), the FEC wants to get a general change in lifestyle by the sum of individual actions.

The axis on which turns the chain favors are: smoking cessation, anti sedentary and healthy eating.
