Environment rejoining the new ground cover garden areas that require less maintenance and a low water consumption (08/09/2013)

Since green areas are a collective heritage of great social and cultural value, the Department of Environment, led Adela Martinez-Cache, continues to progress in achieving sustainable green spaces, more care, clean and comfortable for everyday life citizens.

Based on this objective, the Environment Service of the City of Murcia is promoting the use of new ground cover to replace grass and prairie grasses that have been traditionally employed.

The use of these new ground cover is more beneficial for the following reasons:

- They carry less water consumption compared with tussock-grass prairie.

It was found that water consumption with the new ground cover can be reduced to 50%.

- They have a greater capacity to grow in shaded areas.

In the municipality of Murcia there are many gardens with trees that provide ample shade areas that prevent current prairie grasses remain because they are plants that require too much sun.

With the new ground cover may cover green spaces far was impossible to cover, as they are kept in perfect condition in shady areas.

- Requires less maintenance because it does not require the continued harvest as is the case cespitosa grasslands.

- They offer a greater variety of colors and ornamental.

Dichondra repens

The Councillor for the Environment, Adela Martinez-Cache, recently visited the Garden of San Antonio, a green space that is located in the Santa Eulalia and is newly established.

- Ivy and Vinca in the gardens adjacent to the Marquis de Corvera

- Ivy and Vinca on the Malecon.

- Vinca in the Artillery Barracks

- Ivy Square Cecilio Pineda
