It is a system based on the European model of "quiet zone."

The speed at which you are driving around the city is one of the most common causes of accidents, hence the importance of increasing the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

The streets 30 form part of a European initiative promoted by associations of pedestrians, cyclists, families of victims of road accidents and social ecology, which advocates reducing the speed in cities by four main reasons:

- Reduce the number of abuses in residential areas

- Encourage more sustainable modes of travel such as walking and cycling

- With less pollution, healthier life is

- If low consumption, energy saving

This is implemented in the city of speed zones limited to 30 kilometers per hour, within the strategy designed by the City Council to improve road safety, reduce pollution and promote the use of bicycles as usual shift in the city .

To this end, we have established eight areas in the city center where there are streets subject to this limitation, currently 4.6 km-, which will be equipped with vertical and horizontal signaling, both hits as the outputs of these areas, reminders in addition inside the vials.

In total, this first phase will be developed this year and whose signage will be installed from the summer-will add 95.5 miles of streets 30.

In 2014 is planning to implement a second phase with another 95 km.

The 8 traffic calmed areas are:

- Zone 1: The Carmen

- Zone 2: Infante

- Zone 3: San Anton

- Zone 4: Cathedral and environment

- Zone 5: This (Vistabella, La Paz, and Santa Eulalia Fame)

- Zone 6: Lady of Grace and St. Basil

- Zone 7: The Ranero

- Zone 8: Espinardo

In these eight areas including streets were already marked at 30 km / h, as well as others by their type (wide, high number of intersections, crosswalks, etc.) May be subject to limitation.

Once implanted speed reduction for the possible introduction of additional measures for traffic calming, as the paving of certain streets, bumps in road, narrowing of roads, etc..

The Murcia Plan 30 is a municipal initiative completes the Bicycle Master Plan in the Municipality of Murcia and was born as a project open, active and capable of incorporating improvements.

Your proposal should be seen in conjunction with other mobility-related activities carried out, such as the creation of a network of parks, open or closed, and the strategy of promoting its use as an everyday urban travel.

Thus, the city "will accommodate the idea of sustainable mobility, less accidents, less smoke, less noise, and becomes healthier for its inhabitants, whether moving pedestrians like cycling," he assured .

In his speech, the Mayor has defended the use of the bicycle as "the ideal alternative to solve some of the most important problems of our cities", including air quality, noise, energy saving, planning regional and town planning, accident prevention and road safety education.
