The rate of entrepreneurial activity in the Murcia region increased 56% in 2011 (19/02/2013)

The Murcia region recorded during 2011, a rate of entrepreneurial activity (defined as business that starts in any sector and not exceeding 42 months of age) of 6.4%, which is, despite the intensification of the crisis, an increase of 56.4% over the year 2010.

This data has been known this morning at the launch of Convalescence Executive Report 2011 Entrepreneurship GEM; paragraph of Murcia has been prepared by the Chair of Entrepreneurship at the University of Murcia, with the sponsorship of the Institute Cajamurcia and Development.

A level of Spain, the technical coordinator of the study, Alicia Coduras, explained that, as most obvious effect of the crisis, there has been a boost in 2011 entrepreneurial activity, increasing from the previous year by 34% and ranking the rate at 5.8%.

As negative data has highlighted that not all the increase is due to a quality activity, but often reflects a 25.9%, a venture of necessity, because they have no other choice professional entrepreneur, a percentage that would be desirable downgrade, has said.

In the region, this project by necessity has reached 32.7%, as outlined by the professor at the University of Murcia Alicia Rubio.

As for entrepreneurial profile of Murcia (mostly male), on the positive side we must include the significant increase in women entrepreneurs, so that one third of the total are now female.

As for the size of the firm, in 2011 there was a sharp decline in the proportion of employees in entrepreneurial initiatives with the stretch of 1-5, significantly increasing the proportion of cases of jobless entrepreneurship.

The proportion of entrepreneurial stage companies that are recognized as completely innovative product or service has had a significant increase after a steep decline in 2010.

By contrast, in the use of new technologies, the results translate into a strong reduction of businesses using cutting-edge technologies.

Also, we should mention the renewed importance of informal private investors as those investors have the greatest influence in the region of Murcia.

The study also compared the results obtained in the region with those of other regions, which reveal that the main differences are in the internal market, knowledge and skills to undertake and support women entrepreneurs, which are below average.

The director of the Institute of Development, Juan Hernandez Albarracín, meanwhile, has been cautiously optimistic by data that place the region with entrepreneurial rate increased ten points above the national average and the four most dynamic regions in entrepreneurial activity.

The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, which has closed the act, referred to the University's concern about the high rates of unemployment Spanish, in their view, the big problem in the country.
