IU-Greens proposed a work plan to address the problems of the neighborhood of El Carmen (19/02/2013)

IU-Greens today proposed the development of a work plan on the city council of El Carmen which includes the creation of committees on the issues of greatest concern to the residents, with the aim of solving the "worrying" situation being experienced the neighborhood.

As explained by the formation councilor in Murcia, José Ignacio Tornel, that plan gives a major role citizen involvement, the purpose of the meetings, beyond collecting impressions of the neighbors, they become a participatory tool.

Tornel indicated that fees can be either permanent or temporary, and its functions are to prepare studies, reports and proposals for activities, either on its own initiative or at the request of the Plenum of the municipal board.

It underlined that the reality of the neighborhood "is far from the promises of the PP" because "investments and promised urban planning have not been met," which adds to the "deterioration" of the area "in urban, trade , cleaning and transportation. "

He assured that the full board "have become a double bill: one part for planned agenda and another in which the neighbors are protesting so insistent always referring to the same shortcomings."

This dynamic, in his opinion, "the board makes an institution increasingly unreliable for citizens, hardly decisive, and it becomes a wall that hit rather than an instrument to channel participation and democracy."

The mayor has argued that while the board has no authority or ability to solve certain problems, "can and should intervene representing the feelings of citizenship".

He criticized the process of gentrification, which is the occupation of an urban area by high economic condition types that raise the standard of living in a neighborhood and prevent remaining in the less affluent classes, "clearly planned neighborhood located sector opposite the railway station. "

"This process begins with the abandonment of the urban area in terms of services, commercial life and cultural attraction, so that their ability to generate civic life vanishes and it drags a depreciation material, closure of small stores and neglect of residents' .

In his opinion, the landmark initiate gentrification of the neighborhood is the Special Plan 2010, currently out of viability.

Temporary station in Los Dolores

On the creation of a temporary station for the arrival of the AVE in Los Dolores, Tornel has stated that this is an "unofficial announcement" that contradicts the statement signed by the 29 councilors of the Municipal Corporation in October 2012.

If built this station, said Councilman leftist organization, "the depopulation and lack of activity in the area of El Carmen would only accelerate."

"This is a new measure adopted by a simple occurrence, without contrast with reality and the needs of the neighborhood, which does not provide for the consequences and for which it has not taken into consideration the opinion and reflectivity of neighbors, "he concluded.
