The restoration of the basement of the Lion of the Malecon, the last step for installation against Almudí (14/02/2013)

Murcia City Council has taken another step in the recovery of the famous Malecon Lion Monument, a replica in stone has already been completed by craftsmen and will be located in the place he occupied for centuries, opposite the Palace of Almudí.

However, this will require restoring the huge basement that held the piece.

This is a great foundation stone has also been preserved until now in a municipal warehouse.

Restoration work of the foundation has already begun and, before placement, is being rebuilt at a store to check the fit of each of the blocks.

The base is made up of dozens of blocks, including some beyond the ton.

Next to Leon retains a plaque in black marble and well preserved, which reads: "this wall was rebuilt and input the Malecon and the lion being mayor and war captain, of this city, Mr. Joachim de Pareja-Obregon (... ) Year 1776 ".

The original plate remains exposed in the Museum of the City, next to Leon, and technical advise not submit again to inclement weather, so an exact replica will be undertaken for its location in the basement.
