The Councillor for Equality Policies and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, presented at the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), in Madrid, the cooperation project Educating developing as an example for other municipalities to take it as model.
This initiative is to organize monthly events, exhibitions, conferences, documentaries, educational and awareness talks, etc., with the presence of NGOs and taking as theme days indicated and the Millennium Development Goals.
Each month is devoted to a theme.
Educating developing launched for the first time in 2012 and has been a success due to the high participation of schools, Centers for Women and other associations and organizations.
More than 12,000 students have participated in the municipality proposals.
All activities are free.
Barquero stated that "we are committed to promoting social awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the reality of developing countries and the fight against poverty.
Education is essential for development to contribute to the awareness of the responsibility of citizens in a process of sustainable human development ", and added that" we believe that the school year is the best time to promote this awareness to Through this project, which aims to influence the education of children and youth in the municipality of Murcia, to promote a set of values ​​based on respect and solidarity with the poorest countries.
