The Garden of Malecón becomes a showcase of international peacekeeping missions of the Armed Forces (01/02/2013)

Mayor visits the camp, which is organized for the second time in order to sensitize schoolchildren about interventions to help the Armed Forces and Security Forces carried out abroad.

It is anticipated the influx of more than a thousand children.

Nearly a thousand students from schools in the municipality today visited the Garden of the Malecón, where all day the media will be displayed using the military and state security forces in international missions engaged to assist in situations of emergency abroad.

The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, and the Government Commissioner, Joaquín Bascuñana, accompanied by the Councillor for Equality Policies and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, have not missed the appointment, and have made a tour of the camp, knowing directly resources being made by the institutions participating in missions abroad.

It is the second time that this initiative is organized, after checking the success that was achieved last year.

In addition to the human and technical resources, visitors will also find dog shows to be offered by the Navy, National Police and Civil Guard.

Also, high school students will have the opportunity to assist in the assembly hall of the Palace Almudí two talks in which participants in missions abroad by slides and documentaries explain interventions done in emergency situations.

This sample International Missions is part of the activities undertaken by the City of Murcia on development cooperation projects to disasters and humanitarian assistance and coordination with other public administrations.

By its nature, the geographical areas in which the city of Murcia special attention are the developing countries of Central America, South America, Africa and parts of South and East Asia.

In many of these countries the City of Murcia has been subsidizing development cooperation projects and provide humanitarian aid in those times when it was necessary as a result of some kind of disaster, as was the case in Honduras (1998), Argentina ( 2002), Ecuador (2008), Haiti and Cuba (2008), Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam (2009), El Salvador (2009) and Haiti (2010).

At the same time, the military and state security forces acting in Spanish humanitarian relief and peacekeeping missions, along with international institutions based in Spain.

- Criminalistics Laboratory of Organic Unit of the Judicial Police (UOPJ): Unit Components for material inspections.

- Underwater Group (GEAS): Components with van, zodiac and material used in dives.

SPANISH ARMADA

- Field hospital for up to 50 people.
