Murcia with "Earth Hour" (30/03/2012)

On Saturday, March 31 from 20:30 to 21:30 hours, turn off the lights of buildings and monuments of the city to fight climate change

Murcia City Council adheres to a year's Earth Hour as a measure to combat climate change.

So, tomorrow, Saturday, March 31 from 20:30 to 21:30 hours the lights will go out of the following places in the municipality of Murcia: the City Hall of Murcia (Square of Spain), the monument to the Sardine, facade of the church of El Carmen, Monteagudo Christ, Old Bridge, facade of the church of Santo Domingo and facade of the church of The Whites.

In addition to join this initiative, it should be noted that the City of Murcia, through the Department of Environment, who heads Cachá Adela Martinez, has been conducting a major energy efficiency measures, such as:

- Incorporate energy efficiency criteria in public procurement of wood products and paper.

- In the street lighting fixtures by replacing other high performance and low consumption, Christmas lights with LED technology, LED traffic signal placement, etc..

- Ordinance of energy efficiency in street lighting (in force).

- Installation of renewable energy by installing photovoltaic roofs on municipal buildings, stand-alone installations for lighting in gardens and isolated buildings, bus shelters, etc..

- Energy audits in municipal buildings.

- Change of monitors with more efficient computers.

- Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and Bicycle Master Plan (purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles, electric motorcycles and vehicles powered by biogas, implementation of public renting bicycles, etc..).

On Saturday, millions of people from different countries will turn off the lights on Earth Hour, a global initiative of WWF, the World Conservation, coordinated in our country by Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina, to show that we care about climate change.

This year will be held on Saturday 31 March between 20.30 and 21.30 and will include the accession of municipalities, businesses and individuals in major cities worldwide.

Earth Hour aims to demonstrate that together, each of us can give a positive signal to confront global warming.

It emerged in Sydney, Australia, during 2007 and convened two million people.

Five years later, in 2011, citizens of 135 countries on all continents turned off their lights, more than 1500 monuments and landmarks are obscured.
