Social Welfare show their support for the Spanish Association Against Cancer (21/01/2012)

The councilman of Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, met this week with representatives of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, held on 26 February eighteenth Picado Bullfighting Festival

At this meeting the council has demonstrated full cooperation from the City Council with this event, which meet in the bullring the matadors Enrique Ponce, El Cordobes Rafaelillo Fandi and Cayetano, the Novillera Conchi rejoneador Rivers and Leonardo Hernandez.

The meeting also discussed the summary of the activity of the association in 2011.

So, probably one of the most important tasks are campaigns for early diagnosis.

During the past year received mammograms in the campaign of the Ministry of Health for a total of 38,826 people, 704 mammograms and 769 ultrasounds located.

In total 365 women were referred for suspected cancer.

As for cervical cancer, Pap tests were performed 3263 prostate cancer and PSA 912 made.

It was also attended people diagnosed with cancer: Psycho-oncology patients and 817 relatives and attended talks on the recovery of eleven laryngectomees.

In Long x Living program, aimed at women diagnosed with cancer and 292 women participated in lymphedema rehabilitation service to nine women.

It also carried out various activities in primary prevention: three courses of six weeks for smoking cessation, 32 informative lectures on cancer prevention and health education and organization of ten "Week for life" throughout the region.

Campaigns were also held at various conferences such as World Cancer Day, World No Snuff or World Day against breast cancer.
