About 350 older ones learn to eat healthily (15/11/2011)

The Department of Social Welfare is conducting workshops in community centers that include the drafting of three recipes

The Department of Social Welfare, through the Municipal Health Services and the Senior Section, within the framework of the objectives of the National Obesity Prevention NAOS, is undertaking the development of "healthy eating workshops" in different major social centers of the municipality.

The objectives pursued in this activity are:

- Provide tools that enable older people to make healthy eating, enabling the development of personal skills.

- Transmit information on nutrition, food, food safety and cooking techniques to partners / as Social Centres for the Elderly.

- Make clear that schools are where health care, taking into account the role of cooks / os and buyers / as, for children, youth and adult family members and thus determine their food pattern.

The workshop, involving approximately 350 seniors, is preparing three recipes that make a full meal, a starter (tricolor vegetable cream), a main course (salmon with bean sauce) and dessert (pumpkin with cream cheese) with the following characteristics:

- Simple and quick to prepare.

- Attractive, appropriate sensory qualities of presentation, color, smell, texture and so on.

- Healthy and allow use of foods that need to be reinforced in the diet such as vegetables, oily fish, dairy and so on.

The workshop methodology is a theoretical and practical, dynamic and participatory continuous interaction of the attendees.

In developing these older are invited to participate in the development of recipes

The workshop is coordinated by a professional chef and also has support from a nutritionist that relates the health benefits of each food and method of preparation.

After the workshop attendees are invited to sample the prepared dishes.

The session lasts two to three hours and has the support of Puleva.

The workshops, which have already been held in New Javalí centers, Los Garres, Bacons Bridge, Beniaján Quarter Progress and will be taught in the remainder of the month, on the premises of their own Social Centres for the Elderly, as the following schedule:
