The Mayor celebrates the Day Listen Phone volunteers of Hope (15/11/2011)

The association, which celebrates its 40th anniversary, has handled more than 4 million calls since its inception.

This data can confirm the importance of the work of this organization, which since its foundation has assisted more than 4 million calls from people in emotional crisis.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, wanted to accompany the members and volunteers of Hope Phone in Murcia in the celebration of Day of Listening, as each year marks the 15th November and this year, well-engaged to celebrate its 40 anniversary.

The conference is convened in order to sensitize the public about the beneficial effects for all you know to listen well to others.

On this occasion, the program to mark the Week of Listening was launched yesterday in a ceremony in which, in addition to exhibiting a short film, it was also testimony from some volunteers.

Joining them was addressed by the president of the Telephone of Hope, Jesus Madrid, and the Mayor, Miguel Angel House.

Today, the psychologist Bernabé Tierno present the conference "Self-seeding of the staff of Hope," while the conference will conclude Wednesday morning with the participation of Javier Urra-psychologist and former Ombudsman for Children in Madrid, who will speak on "The importance of listening in interpersonal relationships. "

All sessions take place at 20 hours in the classroom culture of CAM.

In the 40 years of existence, telephone volunteers have attended Hope over 4 million calls from people in emotional crisis (over 300,000 suicide-themed) and the first demand they do is "be heard".

Specifically, 65% of users say they need "someone to listen" well ahead of the 17% who seeks guidance on a problem or 7% requesting an interview with a psychologist or a lawyer, indicating that active listening is, in itself, therapeutic.

The Phone of Hope, who turns 40 years listening to others, works four areas: "Crisis Intervention", "Promotion of emotional health," "Teaching Support" and "International Cooperation".
