200 volunteers will work in the UCAM World Youth Day Madrid 2011 (15/08/2011)

200 volunteers enter students, faculty and staff services, San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) departed this morning from the University Campus to Madrid to participate actively as volunteers in the World Youth Day (WYD).

The volunteers held a Mass in the temple of Jeronimos which has been chaired by the Archbishop of Arequipa (Peru), Javier del Río Alba and co-chaired by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes.

The celebration of the Mass has served as sending the issuance of the UCAM the World Youth Day as well as 500 pilgrims from Peru who have been in recent days in Murcia today before leaving for Madrid.

Note that the UCAM is involved in all the events planned by the organization, including the University will come to receive the Holy Father at the entrance to the capital, the President of the UCAM and University professors will participate in a meeting with the Holy Father, and in addition the University will also be present in the Via Crucis which will run through the streets of Madrid on Friday August 19.

Volunteers from the Catholic University of Murcia will be housed in the Convent of the Handmaids of Jesus, and from there be distributed in groups to contribute to voluntary work at the Retreat or Almudena, or to collaborate in specific areas such as health or the transfer of bishops, among others.

From UCAM has ensured that the group of volunteers is fully available to the organization of World Youth Day, but also be involved in various activities organized allowing attendees to live and meet and talk about their experiences.

The activity coordinator and director of the Religious Action Service of the UCAM, Juani Hernández, stated that this meeting of young people with the Pope is an encounter with Christ himself.

"The Holy Father confirms our faith every World Youth Day is an example of the universality of the Church, as young people see different language, race, social status, are united by one spirit. My experience is that these meetings are encouraged young people to take root and build their lives upon the foundation of the teachings and example of Christ without fear or dread, "he asserted coordinator.

Notably, the UCAM, through the International Institute of Charity and Volunteer John Paul II, and has extensive experience in helping and social cooperation.

For several editions volunteers have been present at World Youth Days and the various meetings that both John Paul II and Benedict XVI has made in Spain.

Institute Director and Vice President for University Extension of the UCAM, Antonio Alcaraz, said that "we have had awesome experiences in all these volunteer activities we do: we have met young people who has changed their lives, young people need help and have found these activities: perhaps been a word of the pope, meeting with people without the minimum to live, they experience problematic social situations, meeting with elderly in nursing homes, with children at risk, and so on. All this has helped you to understand and consider the life of a more humane way. "
