Mayor House proposes a plan to revitalize and promote trade and job creation (11/08/2011)

Ideas for discussion is the creation of new spaces, the organization of leisure and cultural activities and places 'themed'.

This are the goals it has set the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, who this morning the lines of a new initiative to boost tourism growth, trade and economic development in the various neighborhoods and districts of the city and allow the maintenance and the creation of new jobs.

House has held this morning a meeting with the mayors of Commerce, Urban Planning and Culture, José María Tortosa, Juan Antonio Gomez and Rafael Bernabe, to begin to outline the scope of the new initiative.

The result of the meetings held in recent weeks between Councillor of Commerce, José María Tortosa, and various trade associations, is now trying to agree on this new plan to channel their concerns and proposals as well.

In its first phase, the plan will perform a thorough diagnosis of the current situation and request the cooperation of all stakeholders, among which are associations of hoteliers and merchants, University of Murcia, consumer organizations, Chamber of Commerce, SMEs and cultural management, neighborhood associations, as well as any citizen wishing to make suggestions and initiatives for assessment.

Among the proposals to be submitted for study and discussion of Murcia are the following:

Energize urban space: We propose the creation of shared spaces for artists' groups and associations that will provide neighborhoods and districts of a more intense cultural and social life, even in the afternoons and evenings and weekends.

On the Web, to the world: The installation of webcams in the center will offer virtual tours to the world via the Internet, serving as a tourist attraction and at the same time, allowing live coverage of the various festivals celebrated in the city ​​districts

Trade to the streets: The new plan will promote the organization of exhibitions, fairs, markets and any initiatives to help the downtown merchants to show people their products and creativity.

Open nights: Following the proposals of the trade associations, the City will promote the celebration of Open nights, with a wide range of activities on the streets to support the opening of stores beyond their usual schedule.

More tours: Following the line initiated by the Department of Tourism will create new routes through the historic center, focused on innovative aspects such as gastronomy, historical legacy, legends, traditional shops, etc ...

The citizen, first of all: The new plan also remain committed to sustainability and the actions undertaken through the Plan Move Murcia, with special emphasis on the recovery of areas for pedestrians and promoting cycling.

A plan for each position: The plan will propose for discussion the creation of so-called thematic squares, that will become poles of attraction for citizens throughout the week and during weekends.

Thus, each of the historical center's public spaces will have a specialized programming (children's theater, concerts in small format, Exhibitions, Live Music, Space University).

A young city: Another of the guidelines of the new plan will focus on developing children's creativity and youth through the proposed workshops in neighborhoods and districts and personalized tours for children in order that they can learn while they play, stimulating business activity the area.

Housing and Business Management: The City of Murcia promote housing rehabilitation and commercial low (renewal of the external image, removal of architectural barriers, improvement of sanitary conditions, clean blinds ...).

Leisure: The plan will propose the creation of a modern leisure guide, free of charge and weekly basis to become a reference on the social, cultural and economic city.
