A study by the University of Murcia claims the need to recover the abandoned salt (19/04/2011)

A scientific study conducted by several professors from the University of Murcia and appeared in the magazine "Grand Tour", published by the School of Tourism, emphasizes the importance of the recovery of disused or abandoned salt is in the Region of Murcia.

For the study's authors, "the good results being obtained with participatory management in the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar would suggest that should be fostered in other areas where salt is still in production or can potentially be recovered."

Scientists are concerned in particular the need to re-operate the salt and Rasall Marchamalo, "whose interest is fundamental environmental and tourism in the south coast of the Mar Menor and whose viability has not been able to ensure the long term."

The study collects thirty of salt that exists in the Region of Murcia, which are located in the towns of Jumilla, Fortuna, Molina de Segura, Ulea, Eyes, Ricote Blanca, Cieza, Calasparra and booklets.

There are also other in Murcia, Moratalla, Caravaca de la Cruz, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcazares, Cartagena and Mazarrón.

The authors recommend providing conservation of some kind of salt to those that are not included in the network of protected areas "to ensure its territorial integrity against possible changes to the municipal planning."

This work has been carried out by professors José María Gómez, Ramón Martínez, Encarnación Gil and Gustavo Ballesteros, along with fellow Salvador Gil.
