Martínez-out in Madrid Cache Prize Competition III projects for the enhancement of Biodiversity (16/03/2011)

The Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality has gathered this morning in Madrid a new environmental award for the municipality.

On this occasion the Council has received an award in the Competition III projects for the enhancement of Biodiversity, organized by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

The FEMP has recognized this project 'Actions for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity through the maintenance of municipal properties of City Hall in a special area of ​​protection of birds Monte Valley Altaona saws and Escalona.

The project aims at several objectives which are reflected in the cooperation agreement signed between two agencies:

- Enhance the biodiversity of farms in both forest and agricultural areas.

- Assist the knowledge of the environment by the citizens of the natural values ​​of this protected area.

- Promote environmental awareness to young people with environmental education activities.

- Fire Prevention

- To improve agricultural conditions of rainfed farming (almonds, carob and olive trees) already in place and implementation of new cultivars of dry land.

- Encourage the existence of species of fauna attached this medium.

- Encourage local farmers to good agroforestry.

- Maintenance of the landscape.

- Adequately manage existing water birth, so as to encourage different types of species of fauna habitat and create conditions conducive to the dispersal of amphibians.

- Creating jobs for local people with the many farm tasks to develop.

The total project is 45,000 euros, to be funded by FEMP.

Also Councilwoman Martinez-Cache table moderated yesterday 'The Economics of Ecosystems' within days "of local governments and the Biodiversity Strategy for 2020" held in Madrid and also organized by the FEMP.

In this table the council has presented the model of land stewardship and implemented by the City maintenance and improvement of municipal properties of the SPA and the Sierra de Escalona Altaona
