Eurocities choose the example of Murcia to analyze sustainability of energy efficiency measures, climate change and air quality (10/03/2011)

The city is one of Europe's most active capital in these areas and has several awards.

Among the participating cities are Antwerp, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Nuremberg, The Hague and officials of Eurocities.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, received this morning with representatives of major European cities come to Murcia to discuss measures on energy efficiency, climate change and air quality.

Policies on sustainability and energy saving in the city developed over the years have allowed Murcia is chosen to host this important forum, through Eurocities.

The ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for the Environment, Adela Martinez-cache.

Experts from different cities of Europe meet, hosted by the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia (ALEM) to analyze and define the position of European cities against the European Commission on issues of energy efficiency, climate change and improving air.

Among the participating cities are Antwerp (Belgium), Birmingham (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Gothenburg and Stockholm (Sweden), Nuremberg (Germany) and The Hague (Netherlands), as well as managers of Eurocities (Brussels) .

The significant media coverage is having a national and international level these issues at present shows that are of greatest concern to European cities at this time.

Murcia is one of the most active in these fields currently in Eurocities and as a result Eurocities Murcia has chosen to host this meeting of the working group.

During these days will be held various meetings and conferences at the headquarters of ALEM, Murcia upon to represent in this forum.

Among the objectives of the working group include the networking as a way to share actions that result in improved air quality and the implementation of EU legislation in cities, to join efforts to integrate adaptation measures climate change in cities and the development of energy plans to improve the sustainability of European cities.

Among the topics to be discussed at the conference in Murcia include adaptation of cities to climate change, financing of local measures of environmental protection and development of policies and action plans for sustainable energy.
