The study of landscape and heritage of the galleries in the region has been the subject of study of the work that has coordinated Professor of Geography at the University of Murcia Gil Incarnation and involving other teachers of this institution.
The book, published by the University, under the auspices of the Academy "Alfonso X el Sabio and the Ministry of Science and Innovation, discusses the gallery systems Yecla, Jumilla, Abarán Cieza, Alhama and Santomera, among other municipalities.
The book states that "water harvesting system picked up by galleries and mined generates most of the time three landscape units: the catchment area, the driving element and accumulation and distribution of water area .
The publication concludes that some of these areas "can become resources for local development and all are proof of the cultural heritage at the local level, expression of the rich heritage of the Water Culture in the territory of South-east of the Iberian Peninsula."
