An ally to prevent bullying: mediation (26/02/2018)

Four hours in which experiences and advice on how to deal with school disputes have been shared.

The particularity of mediation is that, like disputes, it can be integrated into practically any field.

The end of bullying could be in its early detection through mediation.

Rosa M. Vigueras, Helena Ruiz Feal and Javier Cabrer, Murcia mediators, have taught a series of courses at the Institute of Secondary Education Alquibla, in La Alberca.

The workshops dealt with bullying, the mechanisms to detect it and its approach through the elements provided by mediation.

"The IES Alquibla was interested in training teachers, in a framework of implementation of mediation that requires the involvement of the entire educational community, commented Helena Ruiz.

About the mediation, from the institute they understand that it is a very healthy practice for the improvement of the social coexistence in general.

"The children who, during a mediation, manage to put themselves in the place of the other, have learned the best of the lessons", has defended José Luis González, member of IES Alquibla and coordinator of the judges of peace.

In this regard, he stressed that, for students, learning to solve their problems with others through mediation "makes them happier, more generous and more human, is not that what our society needs?"

On the one hand, they have given an update course to their students who had already been trained as mediators.

Four hours in which experiences and advice have been shared on how to deal with school disputes and, above all, how to interrupt the spiral of violence that an unsolved conflict could cause.

"Exchanging experience with people who are in the first line of fire daily is enriching," said Rosa M. Vigueras.

Regarding the training given to teachers, this included not only the mediation, but also addressed in detail issues such as conflict, communication and emotional intelligence, which have been developed for 16 hours to 20 teachers.

"Mediation is basically communication, the mediators work to make the parties in conflict recover the dialogue and from there we continue our work in ... as a team to build solutions for their differences," said Javier Cabrera.

The particularity of this sector is that, like disputes, it can be integrated into practically any field, "whenever there is a conflict between parties, and with it, the will to find a consensual solution, there is a mediation", pointed out Helena Ruiz .

In this way, the mediation apart from providing elements of prevention in school bullying, extends its powers to the field of conflict resolution in the family, business, banking ...

In fact, in 2016, the Intrajudicial Mediation Unit of Murcia (UMIM), a public body that coordinates this field at a regional level, managed a total of 596 mediations, as a result of judicial referrals.

This result represents 40% more than the previous year.

Rosa M. Vigueras, Helena Ruiz Feal and Javier Cabrera founded a few months Modera Mediation Center, one of the first mediation offices in Murcia that offers its services not only to educational institutions, but also to people with conflicts of various types that so require it (look at other notes the tagline)
