Family businesses perceive a clear improvement in the economic situation, according to the Barometer presented at the UMU (12/01/2018)

Family businesses in the Region of Murcia perceive a clear improvement in the economic situation, although they feel a certain concern about the availability of productive factors, mainly water, followed by relative to other resources, such as energy.

Within these perspectives, which are contained in the Barometer of the Family Business of the Region, which has been presented this Friday in the convalescence building, headquarters of the Rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), concern for the political situation drops to be in third place, along with financing.

The figures in the report also indicate that for the third consecutive year there are more companies that increase their investments -37.2 percent- than those that decrease them -14.5 percent-, with an improvement trend.

With regard to the succession in the same, it is emphasized that the female presence in the position of maximum responsibility is higher in family businesses, since one in four companies of this type is headed by a woman.

The founders, the Barometer reads, begin their working life at age 17, four years before their successors.

32 percent of them are run by their founder, and in 59 percent the director is a descendant of the owner family.

During the presentation of the Barometer, which reaches its 17th edition, the director of the Mare Nostrum Family Business Chair, promoted by the UMU and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Ángel Meroño, who has exhibited his most significant data, intervened. , and the president of the Murcian Association of Family Business, José María Tortosa.

The territorial director of Levante of the Mare Nostrum Bank, Olga García, and the rectors of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, and the UMU, José Orihuela have also done so.

The act has also been attended, among others, by the UMU exrector Juan Monreal, who is the honorary director of the aforementioned Chair.
