The remains that appear on Madre de Dios street bear no relation to the Arab baths since they belong to the eighteenth century (12/01/2018)

The municipal archaeologist, accompanied by officials of the Road Cleaning Service, visited Madre de Dios street this morning to verify on site that no medieval material has appeared but that everything found corresponds to the 18th century.

As confirmed by the archaeologist, the archaeological process and the methodology followed is the usual one and is perfectly coordinated with the General Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community.

In this way it is proceeding to the documentation of the remains found and will be delivered all the material that is obtained.

It has also been corroborated that the appearance does not bear any relation to the Arab baths destroyed in the middle of the last century as they are located in the bus lane of the Gran Vía, far from the open ditch in Madre de Dios street.

Likewise, no coins have been found but it is a piece that has yet to be determined, but which has been found next to a contemporary brick and a plastic wrapper from a nearby hotel establishment.

No other significant materials have appeared, while the tinaja corresponds to a septic tank of modern chronology that will be deposited in the Archaeological Museum as is usual in all archaeological excavations.

The excavation that is taking place in the street Madre de Dios is due to the installation of underground containers requested by the neighbors to the Department of Development.

Initially the underground containers were going to be installed in an area closer to the Gran Vía but due to the facilities of many services the location was modified, no archaeological remains having appeared on the excavated levels, according to the archaeologist who supervised the jobs.
