Carlos Berzosa talks about climate justice and human rights at the UMU (29/11/2017)

Carlos Berzosa, Professor of Economics at the Complutense University and President of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid, offers a conference entitled "Climate Justice, Human Rights and Development Cooperation" on Thursday, November 30.

It will be at 12 noon in the Board Room of the convalescent building.

In his lecture, Berzosa will speak about the most serious problems of the world economy, and will analyze the social and ecological limits that exist at the moment, as well as the tendencies that can be glimpsed in the international situation.

It will analyze the problems facing the underdeveloped countries and the difficulties in facing the ecological problem that these countries have.

"Lately he says - we are witnessing a new wave of refugees pushed by climate change, since they are leaving land that was fertile and now have no chance of cultivating, so they are forced to flee to other places."

Interestingly, the countries that pollute the most, the ones that are causing the most climate change, assures "they are the rich countries, which are the ones that pollute the most".

He affirms that the underdeveloped countries have less means to deal with this situation, and that "many times, when countries grow a lot, as is the case of China, they do it by not taking into account environmental and ecological aspects".

Berzosa says that the underdeveloped countries are affected by the fact that the rich countries have exploited many natural resources there and also because many waste is now being thrown towards the Third World countries. "According to him, climate change is damaging them until There are refugees on this issue.

The concept of ecological justice, one of the topics that will be addressed in your conference, arises from the fact of trying to take into account the changes that climate change is causing in their lives.
