NOW MURCIA demands that the City Council include gender criteria in the bases of subsidies for activities and sports entities of the municipality, as well as programs in this area.

The Consistory has recently completed the subsidy procedure for sports activities in the municipality for the 2016/2017 season, aimed at "sports clubs and associations, sports anonymous associations, sports federations and individual athletes".

In the bases of these grants and in the criteria for granting them, the gender perspective is not considered, so Alicia Morales explains that from Murcia now it is considered necessary "to adapt the bases of these grants and in the next calls be included in them criteria of gender that encourage the feminine base sport in our municipality ".

The spokeswoman of Now Murcia indicates that "from the City council the measures must be taken that go in the line of reaching more and more to the wished equality between men and women in the field of the sport" and it indicates that this inclusion of the criteria of gender in the bases of subsidies to sports entities "we must try to have it take place in the next call, for the 2017/18 season".

Morales notes that "the City Council, from the Department of Social Rights, is currently writing the Second Plan for Equality of Opportunity between Women and Men of the Municipality of Murcia 2018-19, which includes as a specific objective the promotion of equality between genders in the field of sports and physical exercise, for which the implementation of campaigns and dissemination actions with an annual budget of 4,500 euros is contemplated, however, as was discussed in the last Equality Council, in addition to these campaigns of diffusion impelled by the Concejalía of Social Rights, is necessary to work also of transversal form and to carry out concrete actions on the part of the different councils, in this case the one of Sports and Health ".

In this sense, the councilor considers fundamental the empowerment of women's sports "through subsidies to activities and programs that bring sports to women and promote their participation in competitions."

The motion that Now Murcia will take to the Plenary of tomorrow also proposes that the City Council study the impact that has been in the promotion of the female sports practice of our municipality the policy of subsidies to sport activities followed until the moment.
