Social Rights subsidizes with € 42,000 the projects of the Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (24/11/2017)

The members of the Governing Board of the City Council, through the Department of Social Rights, have approved a Collaboration Agreement with the Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia, FUNDOWN, which is accompanied by a grant for the execution of his projects "Inclusive Leisure for People with Intellectual Disability" and "School of Life: Shared Housing Program".

The Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia, FUNDOWN, was established as a non-profit entity in 1994, pursuing among its purposes "the promotion and realization of all activities that contribute to the improvement of living conditions and procure full family, social and work integration and the development of a normal life, of people with Down Syndrome, within the framework of solidarity with respect to other etiologies that involve some type of disability ".

The Inclusive Leisure for People with Intellectual Disability project pursues the promotion of knowledge and skills so that the group of people with intellectual disabilities can enjoy leisure autonomously.

The activities are carried out in standardized environments and in integration, carrying out an important task of social awareness and education of the community about the potential of people with intellectual disabilities by providing meeting points in the different social resources and recreational spaces.

On the other hand, the project 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program' is based on the coexistence of people with intellectual disabilities and students of the University of Murcia, in conditions of equality, in order to implement a training model progressive that allows a training for the independent life of people with intellectual disabilities in all the contexts in which they develop, that is, family, educational, work and relational.

The number of people benefiting from the Inclusive Leisure Project is 50, distributed by groups of no more than 10 people aged between 16 and 55 years.

For its part, the Sheltered Homes program is aimed at 14 people with disabilities and seven students from the University of Murcia, as well as their families.

EXECUTION TIME.

From January 1 to December 31, 2017.

AMOUNT OF THE GRANT:

The subsidy amount planned for 2017 is € 42,000.
