Social Rights proposes the constitution of the Local Gender Coordination Committee (19/10/2017)

The Councilor for Social Rights of the City of Murcia, Conchita Ruiz, chaired this morning the meeting of the Commission on Gender Violence in which they have released data on Care of the Municipal Team for Attention to Gender Violence (EMAVI) during the first six months of 2017.

"The work of this Commission, which has been in force since 2004, allows us to review the number of interventions and improve the protocols for women victims of gender violence. We speak of a long process of intervention as evidenced by the existence of old cases of violence that has not yet been eradicated.For this we have the work of a great multidisciplinary team formed by professionals in psychological, legal or social matters that are available to any woman who needs it, "explained Councilor Conchita Ruiz during the intervention.

On the way to improving care, the Commission has discussed the proposal of the Council of Social Rights to establish the Local Coordinating Committee on gender violence as an instrument for technical coordination among the different bodies involved in the fight against violence gender.

Likewise, it is proposed to amend the Council's rules of procedure to include the functions of the Violence Commission.

This is done with the intention of making the operation of both agencies more operative and avoid duplication in both the functions and entities represented in those bodies.

Attentions in 2017

In relation to the figures, in total, so far this year have taken care of 224 women, accounting for a total of 1,630 interventions.

Of the number of women who have received assistance from the EMAVI until 30 September, 58% of the cases have been new (130 women), while 42% of these cases are old (94 women).

Of these, 65% are women of Spanish nationality and, by age, women aged between 30 and 40 years (32% of cases), between 40 and 50 (29% of cases) or between 10 and 30 (18% of attentions), with the mean age being 38 years.

In terms of nationality, 65% are Spanish and 34% of the cases, 78 in total, foreign.

The majority of interventions are performed with women with primary education (43%), ahead of those with secondary education (35%) or without studies (11%).

Relevant also the labor situation or benefits that the women attended so far this year.

Fifty-two percent of them had incomes, with half of them coming from a job.

Almost half of the women beaten, therefore, have no income.

As for the aggressor, the expareja stands out in 56% of cases, ahead of the couple, in almost 4 out of 10 attentions.

For its part, 3 out of 4 battered women did not coexist with their aggressor.

Finally, in relation to the type of abuse done to the women served, the physical and psychological aggressions stand out in 42% of the cases, ahead of the psychological abuse in 27% of the attentions.

Only physical, economic or sexual abuse is shown less frequently.

The assistance work of the team of Attention of the Municipal Team of Attention of Gender Violence has allowed legal attention to 132 women and psychological attention to 65 of the victims.

As for the cases that have concluded with judicial intervention, 64% of the complaints have been resolved with convictions for the perpetrators and 78 restraining orders, which are in force.

It is necessary to remember that the EMAVI is the multidisciplinary team of the City of Murcia for the integral attention to the women in situation of gender violence of the municipality of Murcia and counts on two houses of reception and a tutelado floor of municipal title, subsidized by the Direction General de Mujer of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, whose purpose is to provide accommodation, protection and specialized treatment for women and their children who need to leave their habitual homes because of gender violence.
