SEMAS celebrates 20 years of life with two days of analysis and debate between experts from different parts of the country (27/09/2017)

The Mobile Emergency and Social Care Service of the City of Murcia is celebrating this 2017 twenty years since its creation and for this has organized a complete program that on 5 and 6 October will bring the municipality to experts from different parts of the country to share experiences in the management of social and emergency crises.

In this way, the information, valuation, counseling and resource mobilization work carried out by SEMAS continues to be carried out with all the sectors of the population of the municipality that have needed it.

A meeting that aims to address the issue of social emergency in social services, as well as to know the different resources to attend to social emergencies that exist in our country and to analyze the major emergencies caused by serious catastrophes, some of the which have occurred in our Region with severe consequences.

"A recognition that seeks to sensitize the ethnic and political leaders of the local level on the desirability of contra with devices and mechanisms in response to social emergencies," highlighted Conchita Ruiz during the presentation of the conference organized by the Department of Social rights.

They are intended for professionals related to emergencies and with social intervention, institutional leaders, students of related disciplines, etc.

Among the programmed activities are the presentations by Andrés Duarte, head of the Social Services department, and José Morales, Head of the Social Emergency Mobile Area of ​​Murcia City Council, who will explain the evolution of SEMAS since its creation and the incorporation of new After the inauguration by the mayor of the municipality, José Ballesta, the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, and the Vice-President of the General Council of Social Work in Spain, Enrique Pastor, on the 5th in the annex building to the Town Hall.

The attendees will have the opportunity to know and compare the different forms of organization and work with the most needy carried out in other points of the Spanish geography.

Professionals coming from Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao or Huesca will explain how to work in small, medium and large municipalities and the challenges they face in their day to day.

Also worthy of note is the presence of the Emergency Military Unit (EMU), which will share the work of care for those affected by natural disasters and especially the cases treated in the Region of Murcia in recent years (Lorca earthquake, floods in Puerto Lumbreras or Los Alcázares or fire in Jumilla).

Complementary activities

In addition to the program to be developed in the Building Annex to the City Council have prepared a series of events that seek to bring the work of the Social Services to the citizens.

On October 5 and 6, three emergency vehicles will be displayed in front of the Moneo building. On Monday 2, the photographic exhibition "20 years of SEMAS" will be inaugurated in the hall of the same building and will remain until 9 October.

Balance since its inception

Since it was created on September 1, 1997, SEMAS has processed 8,357 files, with an average of 439 each year.

The total number of people served reaches 12,734, with 54% men and 45% women.

Regarding the age of the users, the majority (66.3%) correspond to adults between 19 and 65 years of age, the percentage of those under 18 (13%) or over 65 (11% ).

With respect to their nationality, there are 7,618 attentions to Spanish users, followed by 1,006 Moroccans, 867 people arrived from South America, 830 from Romania or 523 from Bulgaria.

At the time of classifying the interventions according to the reference sector, 33% of the actions were carried out with homeless people, 14% with the children's sector, 12% with families, 9% mentally ill, 8'6% with drug addicts.

With regard to scheduled services, which include pre-arranged departures (Cold Operation, Heat Operation), as well as interventions in homes at the request of Social Work Units, the Service for the Protection of Minors and Other Organizations or Assistance to persons and families in unusual times, during 2016 52 departures were made.

Being 25% related to begging and more than half in the morning.
