The V Jornadas of Wikimedia Spain approach the free knowledge to Murcia with the collaboration of the UMU (11/09/2017)

The national congress of Wikimedia Spain will be held in the city of Murcia next 15,16 and 17 September with the aim of stimulating and encouraging free knowledge.

To this end, it has the collaboration of the Faculty of Information and Documentation, the University Library and the University Information Service, with which they will organize various workshops and events that bring the collective to the rest of society.

Within the congress there will be different free and open access activities.

The day 15 will take place two talks colloquium in the Archaeological Museum of Murcia.

The first of them, Journalism, news and Wikipedia will start at 18:00 and will be moderated by the professor of the Faculty of Information and Documentation Lourdes Martínez, which will accompany Wikimujeres journalist Patricia Horrillo;

Marta Ferrero, Onda Regional and Javier Ruiz, Cadena Ser.

This symposium will be chaired at 19:00 with the lecture Open Science and Free Technology in which Remedios Melero, a scientist from the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) and member of the AccesoAbierto.net portal, along with Federica Fulghesu, a member of the Mozilla Foundation, organization in charge of creating free software and creator of Mozilla Firefox browser.

All this moderated by the professor of Librarianship and Documentation of the UMU José Antonio Gómez.

The lectures will continue on Saturday.

At 10:00 a.m., Professor of Translation and Interpretation Marina Ramos, and Santiago Navarro, current president of Wikimedia Spain, will participate with the conference Diversidad lingüística y traducción en Wikimedia projects.

In it, they will make known as is the process of translation first hand.

Then, Abelardo López, doctor in Geography of the UMU, will continue the morning with Extended Photography, spheres and 3D.

Open activities will be complemented by the practical Workshop Wikidata Workshop: SPARQL searches, taught by David Abian, of Wikimedia Spain.

This national meeting will end on Sunday 17, with a playful and active visit all over the plaza Hernández Amores.

At 10 in the morning the Wikipedians will take the Cathedral of Murcia with the event Wiki Takes the Cathedral of Murcia, where the attendees will be able to enjoy a guided tour by the center with the objective of documenting the cathedral and capturing the largest amount of images.

All of them will subsequently be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons database, a repository of free-use images.

This activity is part of the world contest Loves Monuments, which will be held throughout the month.

In this last event, the University of Murcia will be in charge of giving the guidelines to photograph the cathedral and its surroundings.

A new way of active contact with the cultural heritage of the city, in which it is intended to triple the current number of free licensed photographs that are available to the cathedral, incorporating not only its facade but all the architectural elements and possible points of view .
