"Spain is the sum of plenitudes in the different," defended the mayor Murcia to paraphrase the Catalan poet, Joan Maragall
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today defended a concept of a "deeply humanist city fleeing any individualism" in the 23rd Intermunicipal People's Union that is celebrated in Zaragoza under the motto 'Ayuntamientos, guarantee of cohesion of Spain'.
Ballesta, who spoke in the presentation "a look at the cities of the future", together with Energy and Tourism Minister Álvaro Nadal, denounced "the folkloric localism, hermit and exclusion we are living these days."
To paraphrase the Catalan poet, Joan Maragall added that "Spain is the sum of plenitudes in the different".
"For the first time in human history, most of the planet's population lives in cities. By the year 2025, about 70% of the world's population will be living Murcia, a city founded 13 centuries ago, has reached 500,000 inhabitants, but of these, 30% have been incorporated only in the last 20 years, "reflected José Ballesta.
"There are 'cities with projects' and 'cities without projects'.
The mayors, councilors and presidents of deputation are not mere administrators, but transforming elements of society, "stressed the mayor of Murcia at the meeting of the Popular that hosts the Congress Hall of Zaragoza.
"It is not the states that are really operative and relevant economic units in the new economy, but the cities," said José Ballesta, who emphasized that "only with a solid strategy of growth, leadership and the participation of the different actors of the city, will achieve an intelligent balance between the components of the urban trilogy: economic competitiveness, social cohesion and environmental sustainability.
