The Governing Board entrusts the writing of these actions that will be developed in the urban environment of the Segura.

José Ballesta: "We want to open the river to all Murcia and turn their river into the most important green lung of the city, creating an element of union, nature, leisure and free time."

The project Murcia Río, one of the strategic actions of transformation of the city, advances in its development with the beginning of five new interventions that will be developed in the urban environment of the Segura.

In this way, the Governing Board has given the green light to the management commission for the drafting of these plans, whose total amount amounts to 6,312,127 euros.

In particular, it is about:

- River walk project, from the Manterola catwalk to the new garden of the Four Stones, with a budget of 1.5 M €

- The project of the new Urban Park, a space destined to the practice of urban sports, next to the Artillery Headquarters, in the amount of 1.1 M €

- Adjustment project of Lieutenant Flomesta, with a budget of 1.1M €

- Project to adapt Jorge Palacios Avenue, with an estimated cost of 1.1 M €

- Plantation of plant species in the left bank of the Segura River, in its urban section, next to the new bike lane being built, budgeted at € 177,390

The drafting of these projects has been approved for an amount of 112,000 euros.

"Murcia river is one of the substantial elements of the transformation process of the city that we are promoting from City Council, in collaboration with Murcia," said José Ballesta.

"Murcia is one of the few Spanish capitals that has an urban and navigable river that runs through the heart of the capital.

We want to open the river to all Murcia and convert the 24 kilometers of the channel, from La Contraparada to Beniel, in the most important green lung of the city of Murcia;

Creating an element of union, nature, leisure, free time, "said the mayor.

The first one, the river walkway between the Manterola Passage and the Garden of the Four Stones, consists of the creation of a garden walk on the left bank of the river, from the beginning of Paseo del Malecón, upstream direction, even generating Protection screens against the highway and around the existing deterrent park.

The adaptation of the urban park in the Artillery will mean the creation of a Skate Park integrated in the surroundings, thus recovering the space currently wasted on the underground parking deck.

Likewise, the adaptation projects of Teniente Flomesta and Avenida Jorge Palacios include the improvement of green spaces and gardens from La Fica to El Malecón.

The plan for the planting of plant species in the urban section of the river Segura complements the actions in progress in the speck, such as the construction of the bike lane and the new illumination on the channel.

Recognition of the strategic interest of the project

"We have managed to reconcile the different agents involved in this project: the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, the Landowners' Association, Universities, Professional Associations, social and environmental groups, professionals and experts," said the mayor. With the support of the government of the nation ".

The support of the State Executive has been promoted by the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Congress of Deputies, which has submitted a proposal not Law for the recognition of strategic interest of the project 'Murcia River'.

The proposal - to be discussed in the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Environment - seeks the support of the Government of the nation and collaboration in the different actions, which may be established through a coordination and monitoring body.
