The Plaza de Santo Domingo reopened after completing the work of sanitizing the ficus and ensuring the safety of the pedestrians (18/06/2017)

The environment of the Ficus de Santo Domingo has been reopened earlier today after finishing the works of sanitation of this centenary tree that on Friday suffered the fall of part of its branches.

The pruning done by the technicians throughout the Saturday has been necessary to guarantee the safety of all the people that circulate in the zone.

The square, which from the moment of the fall was closed to the traffic of people, is again open, both in the central area and enabled to the terraces, so that the tables of the hotel establishments can be installed again.

However, it has been decided to maintain a perimeter of security in the immediate vicinity of the tree, where the banks and part of the damaged pergola have been removed, while the review and repair work continues over the next few days.

A decision adopted by the responsible of parks and gardens of the City of Murcia after cleaning the damaged areas and make the diagnosis and analysis of the state of this large specimen, allocating for it all technical and personal means that have been necessary.

On Friday, more than 40 operators of Parks and Gardens worked on the removal of fallen branches and to secure the part of the ficus that did not fall to the ground.

This work continued on Saturday with two shifts of 20 workers who have been working continuously and have completed this morning and added to the work of the road cleaning services of the Department of Development have allowed to recover the Place for citizens this morning.
