The members of the (CEDU) State Conference of University Defenders, who chairs the Defensor University of the University of Murcia (UMU), José Palazón, held their annual meeting, which this time took place at the University of Cordoba and in which they have addressed, among other issues, their contribution to improving transparency and governance of universities.
Other discussion topics have been harassment in universities and reconciling work and family life in college.
During the meeting, which reached its nineteenth edition, Defenders of the university have expressed concern "that the rise in public tuition prices, coupled with the tightening of the academic requirements for a scholarship, have managed to expel from universities to students with worse economic situations, which contradicts the conception of higher education as a public good. "
They have also pointed out that "it is in breach of the legal obligation to establish a regulatory standard of living and the disciplinary authority is based on the principle of proportionality and the need to end, once and, with the discipline policy for students, which dates from 1954 and is inspired by the authoritarian and repressive principles of a dictatorship. "
CEDU consists of 62 university Defenders Spain.
