Massive tribute to Cipriano Galea, the first public teacher and La Ñora Javalí Viejo, two centuries after his birth (22/10/2016)

Their descendants, members of the educational community Murcia and many residents participated in this event commemorating the figure of the teacher who taught school for 43 years.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, attended this morning to honor the bicentennial of the birth of master Don Cipriano Galera, the school teacher who "transformed the social and educational reality of the school district of La Ñora and Javalí Viejo", where he gave teaching for 43 years;

in a rally that was attended by the descendants of the honoree, members of the educational community Murcia and numerous neighbors.

"Contemporaries of Cipriano did not hesitate to qualify as a mentor, and counselor called to appear in the glossy pages of the history of Spanish teaching, a school teacher who gave his life to the formation of Murcia children generation end nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a true master, an exceptional human being, a teacher who knows, teaches and loves, "said the mayor, adding that" education works for eternity, because no one can tell where his influence stops and that is precisely what the figure represents Cipriano Galea, two centuries later. "

Cipriano Galea was born in Librilla on 18 October 1816. After completing basic education, he went to Murcia with 14 years to start his studies, where he studied Latin, Philosophy and Humanities.

He interrupted his academic training to go to military service, where he taught many of his compañeroas for eight years to write and read.

After this period, Cipriano decided to follow his vocation and focus on primary education, becoming the precursor of public education in La Ñora, a village with his family maintained a close relationship.

In the district of La Ñora Javalí Viejo and exerted the teaching from 29 years old (in 1846) until his retirement and death (both in 1889).

He was regarded by his contemporaries almost like a 'provicencia' by his instructor work from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

A street in his memory

The tribute was held at the Plaza de la Iglesia de La Ñora, where a bust crown the monument erected in his memory-the first in Spain dedicated to a teacher and currently being restored thanks to a motion passed unanimously in plenary City of Murcia-, within the Cultural Week bicentenaripo the occasion of his birth, which ends today, and which has included the opening of the new 'Master Cipriano Galea', exhibitions, conferences, presenting his biography, street etc .

Today's event also included speeches by the Director General of Universities, Juan Monzo, President of the Organizing Committee, Juan Patricio Peñalver, the official chronicler of Murcia, Antonio Botia, and the great granddaughter of Cipriano, Ana Vián.

Attendees also enjoyed a concert by the symphonic band of musician-cultural Association The Muses of Guadalupe, a performance of the ballet Yogavi and awards ceremony of drawing competition organized within the acts of homage among the schools of La Ñora and Javalí Viejo.
