The PSOE proposes to end the neglect and slaughter of animals in the municipality of Murcia (16/10/2016)

The Socialist Group Municipal Councillor, Maite Espinosa, announced Sunday the launch of a series of initiatives to include in the new Animal Welfare Ordinance being concocting right now in the commission of which it is part.

The mayor explained that "all proposals of the Socialist Party are assumable and would involve substantial when really ensure animal welfare in the municipality improvement."

In this regard, the Socialist Group requested, as already indicated weeks ago that the animal exhibits in adoption Zoonosis service are carried out periodically and common in villages.

"It is important that the possibility of adoption is carried to the districts. Many residents of the village do not know where Zoonosis and some even know that they can adopt animals in this municipal point. We believe that the sample pet, who succeeded in the center of Murcia, it should be traveling and frequent, through all the districts, informing the time on the responsibility of adopting an animal and the obligations and, of course, seeking the goal of neglect and zero sacrifice in our town " .

In addition, the socialist councilor believes it is necessary to undertake awareness campaigns on non-abandonment of animals and also campaigns to remember the importance of sterilization to avoid the large number of abandoned dogs and cats occurs in Murcia and end up reaching zoonosis "most likely to be killed than to find a home."

Therefore, the Socialist Group also aims to reach an agreement with the municipality veterinary clinics to facilitate, in any way, sterilization of pets.

Currently, there are many families with pets unsterilized due to high prices.

In other cities in Europe have already implemented and aid agreements with veterinary clinics to facilitate sterilization and prevent unwanted breeding. "

Espinosa has also proposed the creation of a sanctuary city cats, controlled by the consistory, in order to collect and provide shelter to non-domesticated cats municipality.

"The cat colonies already exist in Murcia but without proper control. What is at issue is that the city of Murcia take that control to ensure the welfare of animals in a more suitable environment and does not harm the neighbors" .

Finally, the Socialist Group is committed to the creation of a municipal canine hotel that allows pet owners leave their pets while traveling or during periods of hospitalization and convalescence.

"Many of the reluctance to adopt come by the impossibility of leaving animals in a safe and comfortable place while the owners travel or when going through medical problems and do not have anyone to leave their pets. The creation of a municipal space where you could temporarily accommodate the animals while their owners are out, at an affordable price, it would be an added incentive to adoption, eliminating the problem of who and where to leave for a few days, your pet ".

Espinosa announced that it has already put some of these proposals on the table in the Committee on Animal Welfare and the rest presented in the notice of October 18.
