Day for history in Rio (18/09/2016)

Spectacular day for the Spanish Paralympics in Rio 16 and, specifically for athletes linked to the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) that added three new medals: Gerard Descarrega (gold), Teresa Perales (silver) and José Manuel Ruiz ( silver).

These three medals in addition to the previously achieved by the own Teresa Perales and David Casinos to leave a balance sheet total of seven medals stamped UCAM: two gold, four silver and one bronze.

The first medal of the day came from the hand of Gerard Descarrega athlete, accompanied by his guide Blanquiño Marcos, in the final 400 meters.

The student of the Degree in Psychology UCAM, with a time of 50.22 seconds, won the final Brazilian Felipe Gomes by just 16 hundredths .. With this gold, Descarrega thorn 12 is removed when London was fourth and brushed Paralympic medal.

From the pool, Teresa Perales could not miss on the final day and extended his impressive record with Paralympic silver in 100 free.

The swimmer morning UCAM ends its participation in Rio 16 with a gold medal and three silver medals to complete 26 from Sydney 2000 Paralympics.

It is also already in the history of the Paralympics Spanish Jose Manuel Ruiz, who added a new medal in table tennis.

This time it was the team silver in which, with his teammates Jorge Cardona and Juan Bautista Perez came close to spring a surprise against China, but the Asians were imposed by a narrow margin (2-1).

It should also be noted that Dr. Francisco Esparza, Cineantropometría Professor of UCAM, has been part of the Spanish delegation working mainly with the team of wheelchair basketball that took silver after losing in the final against the United States.
