High temperatures cause yesterday and today the release of a branch ficus Santo Domingo (06/09/2016)

These types of accidents are very common in the Levant in these days due to high temperatures and high environmental dryness

Technicians from the municipal parks and gardens have come this afternoon immediately to the Plaza de Santo Domingo where a branch has fallen ficus centennial.

Security systems installed by the City have made their function and have prevented the branch from falling to the street, being suspended over the pergola perimeter security.

The technicians have reported that the cause of the fall is the fragility caused in the branch by the high temperatures of these days.

This tree, being one of the most unique of the municipality, has a continuous monitoring and control throughout the year by municipal technicians.

During 2016 arborists experts nationwide have made four revisions.

The tree has various passive safety systems to avoid falling branches to the street in case of detachment, which have malfunctioned.

Mayor José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councillor for Administration Modernisation, Urban Quality and Participation, Jose Guillen, and municipal technicians have come immediately after learning the facts.

Municipal services have cleaned the cut and will be making a new revision with Murcia Fire, Local Police and the company responsible for maintenance of green areas in the municipality.

In the coming hours and during the day tomorrow it will extend the security perimeter while in-depth reviews are conducted.

The activities planned for today in the Plaza de Santo Domingo on the occasion of the Feria de Murcia have had to be moved to the Plaza del Romea to facilitate the cleanup of the tree.
